Depends on your tastes
I bought a direct view 30" Daewoo HDTV (DSC-30W60N), built in tuner, and eventually took it back. The price was great ($999 for a floor demo). However, I think you really want to think twice before getting a TV that size--it was too small for a living room for me. I wanted to replace the 26" regular TV I had there before. I sit approximately 11 feet from the TV. It might work great in a bedroom, however, or a kids room or small den.
The picture from the Daewoo was stunning--it reminded me of Sony tv's--rich colors, not at all grainy. The only complaint I had was that it was very bright--especially the whites. They were in fact too bright for me, even when I lowered the contrast to near bottom. I would therefore say this TV performs well in brightly lit conditions, but not as well in dimly lit or dark conditions. Comparing its picture to other 34" direct view TV's--they seemed to have somewhat the same problem to my eyes. As extensively? Hard to say. But I do think the picture on the Daewoo was BETTER than any of the others. And the sound was great--it has a built in center speaker. So--look before you buy. I know they make a 34" HDTV (no built in tuner), and it might not have quite the same brightness issue. If you find one, watch it for awhile in the store, watching the white areas. You'll love the colors and sharpness of detail. I think it's the whites you will have to decide about. If they are okay for you, I think this is the best picture for the money I have seen. (I eventually decided on the RCA 38310 for my HDTV.) |

You got an RCA 38310 over the Daewoo 30W60N!? Yuck. That's got a rounded picture tube, just like regular TVs. The Daewoo is flat! Nice & flat & square. Nothing like watching TV in the correct aspect, flat & square, perfect at any viewing angle. Get the Daewoo 34W70N if you want bigger. It's flat also.
The Daewoo's are nothing but spectacular. Such a great picture. Only thing I find odd with these sets is that the manual says they can accept 480p and 1080i and shows that it says that on the back. But on the back next to the component input it actually says "1080i only". We've tried to put a progressive DVD player into it and an RCA DTC-100 DirecTV HDTV receiver at 480p, and it would not work. So these boxes are 1080i input only. Be careful. Also, you're next purchase of a TV set should have a DVI w/HDCP input anyway. Since that's where this crap is going. In a few years you won't be able to view nice 1080i on your sets, because they will be encrypted and you set without HDCP won't know what to do with it. But it'll probably be for Pay Per View events and stuff like that. So if you want to enjoy PPV in 1080i in a few years, make sure you get a DVI input w/HDCP. |

I purchased a DSC34W70N in february, its had green discolorations on the edge of the screen since day one (only in widescreen mode), and at the time I didn't know it would not accept a 480P input like it is advertised to do (actually with some movies it does work...like The lord of the Rings...out of my Huge DVD collection I have found 3 movies that don't trip the macrovision circuitry and crap out on me...so it will work with 480P...rarely)
anyway my main problem is that Daewoo tech support dragged me past the 30 return period waiting for some action on thier part, and now for the last 5 months, will not return any calls or respond to me in any way Daewoo is not a good choice.....the picture is great, the price was ok...but service is nonexistent |

I am typing this under a Crosley 32" LCD mounted on the wall. It is made by Daewoo with an LG panel and tuners - boards by Daewoo.
I also have an LG PDP set - 42" - that has wonderful color. This set made by Daewoo is right there with it on PQ - with a bit sharper detail as far as the better HD broadcasts ... it being a 32" screen. The Chinese seem to be really coming on with some pretty good quality. This set has no real reason to take a back seat to any other that I can see. If the Sceptre is made as well as this Crosley, it will be a good set. |

Correction. Daewoo is Korean, not Chinese. |
