Since there isn't a forum for the Toshiba 57H82, I thought I'd ask this here...

The picture with DVD player running on my HDTV with component inputs is AWESOME. Like nothing I have never seen before!

But...

My Direct TV satellite 'hoovers'!!! It is almost like it is out of focus. Does anyone else out there have this problem? And if so, how can it be rectified?

Thanks.

I have the 57HX and the same from D* you need to turn contrast way back to in the 40 range and the focus to around 15 and take the brightness up a little compinsate. Still not the best picture. I hope when D* & Direct have more bandwith freed up by spot beaming that the pic will get better. I hope you are able to take advantage of OTA HD because that is even better than DVD.

Do you mean the 'sharpness' down to 15?

Thanks!

You may want to do a 56pt convergence. This will help on clarity also. Also if the signal is poor the picture is poor. Plus it really helps to use something like the AVIA disc to adjust color/contrast/brightness etc.

Uh....

What is that? The Toshiba 57H82 has a 9 point convergence, which I have run through quite a few times.

Go herehttp://www.bus.ucf.edu/cwhite/theater/theater.htm

This will tell you how to do the 56pt wich is more detaled than the 9pt. Covers more points on your TV.
NOW I am not responsible for anything you do to your TV.

I have heard about entering the service mode, but have been afraid to. Can anything you do with the 64 point convergence screw up the set? I mean, if you follow like he shows on his web site is there anything that can get screwed up?

Thanks again.

I have have done it over a dozen times for each input with out causing any damage. Just be careful take your time and look at your remote before you push a button.
You will be looking at the convergence point and accidently jump out of mode if not careful.
The improvement in picture is outstanding.

I appreciate all your help. I haven't had my set 6 weeks yet, but will look into this soon.

Thanks again!
