I have a 20" 4:3 on the bedroom wall. The picture qualty is good but not great. The room needs to be dark enough to see the picture, but not too dark because the black level is not very good. I use it mostly for DVDs and they look pretty good in 480p.

is it 640x480 ??? that would account for the picture degradation .....if not, then thats odd..... because i dont have any problems with the PQ , only the black levels..... i wish i could get a more ture "black" background ..... any familiarity with this??

My PQ is very good for DVDs and XBOX through component cables. SD through cable is just a little blurry, but not bad enough to make me care about it. As far as black levels, there is really nothing you can do, thats just the nature of LCDs.

Well, about two weeks ago, I bought a LC-37GD4U. My wife and I got it after spending about 2-3 hours in Circuit City comparing the picture of all the LCD and Plasma units they had. We decided to avoid the 45 in, >$7000 TVs (just too much money)...but were open to anything else.

But we did limit ourselves to only LCD flat screen and Plasma. We did not consider any type of projection TV, DLP or otherwise

The store was showing satellite HiDef content on all TVs allowing me to, in my mind, see all at their best.

It was clear to me that the Aquos had, by far, the best picture. I know what the technology supposedly says - that the blacks on Plasma are better...but I wasn't so sure...furthermore, the crispness of the picture of the Aquos was clearly the best of all the TVs in the store.

Once this model was home, I saw it was no fluke. The TV is beautiful, and I couldn't be happier.

Here's the problem though. We bought this TV for our living room...we already had a Sony KP46-WT500 Projection HDTV in our family room. Although I WAS relatively happy with the picture on the Sony, the Aquos was SO much better...and it just made the sony look poor in comparison.

Now, I recognize that an ISF calibration on the Sony would improve the picture (hadn't been done)...and I even, after some searching around on the internet, found a service manual for the Sony and tweaked the convergence (which did improve the picture sharpness) - Yet it still couldn't compare to the Sharp.

So, what to do?

I'll tell you what we did...we moved the Sony to the basement (either to be sold, or to be the foundation of a future rec room down there)...moved the 37in Aquos to the family room (where the stereo/psudo-home theater setup is), and bought ANOTHER Aquos (26-inch LC-26GA4U) for the living room.

I am SO happy. and I'm SO POOR.

I love these TVs. The picture is terrific on both. They are AWSOME products.

Last month bought an Aquos LC-13S1U-S for the kitchen. It's an EDTV and with basic analog cable, we have an outstanding picture.
