Just got my 57H83 about a month ago and found a fabulous deal through Dish Network for $50 that gets you their HD receiver 811 and a analog or digital receiver 301 with a $50 credit on your first bill, you have a year contract but only a $200 early term fee. The hd receiver has a satelite hd receiver and ota hd receiver in it, so worste case scenerio you have an ota hd receiver for $200 right?

That's realy not my dilema though, just thought I'd share what I felt was a great deal from them. My concern is ota receptions and connections. Here are my plans so far with connections, I plan to connect the receiver directly to my tv via a dlp or whatever its called (the one that looks like a computer connector), then I plan to go from my dvd player to my sony receiver via component (red, blue, green) and my ps2 to my receiver the same way, then take a component (red, blue, green) to my tv, with all sound going straight into my receiver. Does anyone see any issues with this? I'm assuming the receiver will distort the ps2 and dvd picture some but will it be that much? I'd hate to buy all these connections and be out that money :)

My second question in the ota signal. Ilive about 30-40 miles from our local ota station receivers, do I need an outdoors anttenna to receive these signals the best or will an indoor set of anttenna work? Is rooftop my only option for this for outdoor or is there something I can just hang out my window? How much do these types of anttenna run? Is best buy my best bet for price and selection?

I get my dish network installed this Sunday and would like to have my local channels in hd the same day, but understand its the holidays and the knowledgable people out there may not be able to respond right away:bow: :D .

Any help you all could give would be greatly appreciated!

The DVI (not DLP) connection will be fine. Look at the FAQ on DVI Connections.

The component video connections you've outlined should be fine too. You should not notice any degredation in picture quality at all, depending on the quality of your A/V Receiver.

There are a couple of FAQ posts on Antenna/OTA - read those. You will likely need an outdoor antenna, but there are lots of OTA experts on this forum. Provide your Zip and they'll help you out.

Check out the other FAQs like "What you need to do to your new HDTV". "Cables & Connections", Etc.

Your connection ideas is perfect.
Now as to the antenna..go to www.titantv.com for recomendations. At 30 -40 miles you WILL NEED an antenna on the roof an most likely a preamp also.
Since DISH does not supply any of this you will need to purchase and moun this equipment yourself. You can have it ready to go so that after your install of the 811 you can then start pointing the antenna in the correct direction. The signal strength meter from the 811 will help in finding the sweet spot for reception.
Be forwarned there is a shortage of 811's on the market and they may cancel the install. Digital signals OTA are hit and miss. Many have a dificult time a getting everything just right. So do not get discouraged.
