Philips Plasma and Progressive Scan DVD

I've had a 32" Philips plasma tv for about 1 year and have recently pushed myself to up grade to HD digital cable and a progressive scan DVD. The DVD player I recently purchased (JVC) is showing horizontal lines that occationally flicker when DVDs are in progressive mode (but not in standard). However, my plasma performs exceptionally well when digital cable signals are in 1080i or 720p through digital cable, with no signs of this horizontal flickering. The tech support for the DVD player thinks my Philips may be having an issue with reading the 480p signal from the Progressive scan DVD. My questions are: (1) are Philips plasmas able to accurately "read" progressive scan DVDs in 480p?; (2) has anyone heard of Philips plasmas having these issues?; (3) has anyone heard of JVC Progressive scan DVDs having these issues?

I'm thinking of returing the DVD player, but before I do, I want to make sure the TV is not this issue. Thanks to all who reply.

I have a 42" Philips plasma and a Sony 665 Progressive scan DVD Player. I don't have the problems you have described. Are You running it the the Philips E box or directly into the plasma?

At first, I was running the progressive scan directly into the Plasma. Now, I am running it through a new home receiver, an Onkyo, so I can do video and component switching....essentially one of the main functions of the e-box. However, the flickering problems persist in both instances.

So, I called Good Guys for their in home repair. Should be here in about 1 week and I'll post the results. I should note that the repair person I spoke with to set up the appointment did say they've seen this problem on a limited scale before. They said it waa a fixable problem...maybe it's limited to the technology that is in the 32"?
