View Full Version : What calibrations can I do on my 30HF83 ?

I'm a newbie here with a 30HF83 and a Samsung DVD HTIB with Klipsch speaker set in a smallish living room . The picture quality is great compared to my old standard TV, but on standard Dishnet satellite shows (HD comming Thurs) I notice a very slight amount of color bleeding from subjects.

It's most noticable when the subject is dark next to a light background. Is this because the colors aren't calibrated in 'sync'? DVD's are much better, I cant wait fo HD. Maybe I'm just being picky. It also seems like the tint is perfect on some shows, but off on others. Weird. I'm thinking I should do something...

I've read a little through the archives and it looks like a daunting task to calibrate a TV. Is it possible for a newbie to do? Are there any settings I could do that would make a difference without a grid? What's the best place to purchase a 30 inch grid or, how do you make one...

Sorry for the 20 questions...I'm learning ;)

Reread the FAQ "what you need to do to your new HDTV". A calibration with a setup disk is quite easy and anyone can do it with a little effort and time (set aside one evening to watch the DVD to learn things and then another evening to do the calibration - do your sound system too). It's fun if you treat it that way. Most of the adjustments can be made without going into the service menu. Don't go there unless you're comfortable with it.
