Just yesterday I noticed a blue field on every channel
and an area in the upper left and another in the bottom right that is normal and have circular edges. It comes and goes and is on every channel with a digital cable box. Any guesses before I call a tech? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Matthew Jones

While we are waiting for other responses, what model Toshiba TV, what model STB. Does it show up on DVD's or just the cable box?

Thanks for your quick response. I have a 57HDX82
with a Motorola HDD200 STB. The speakers are mounted
on the walls well away from the set. The center speaker is at least 40 inches behind and above. I couldn't see it just now with a DVD or with regular cable. Last night It seemed to go away after the set was on awhile. But it will come back even though the set has been on, that is why I describe it as inconsistent.
I first noticed it watching Charlie Rose, which has a black background. I first thought they were in a studio with windows
and there was a lightning storm. I then switched to a black and white movie and really noticed it. I have attached a picture that describes what I see. The areas upper left and lower right appear normal and the other area has intermittent blue static haze.

I've had the same problem with my Toshiba 42HDX. Mine began a few days after I set my convergence in service mode (for some reason my default convergence is fubar and the simple convergence does a pitiful job). When the blue field appeared I wrote artist (post above mine) and he informed me he had to have his blue gun replaced as the service guy determined it was going out.
I've had bad luck with problems disappearing as soon as my box gets to the shop, so I decided to wait until the blue field would never go away (sometimes it comes and goes). Since setting my convergence in service mode was the only change I've made to my set recently I decided to hit auto-focus to destroy all my work and tried to fix the convergence as best I could with the normal user interface. Oddly enough, after a couple of days the blue field has gone away and I haven't seen it since.
All I did previously in service mode was set the convergence and then powered off the TV, not sure why the blue field occured after I did this. I would like to tweak it again, as my convergence is still far from perfect, but I'm afraid of the infamous blue field returning. Is it possible to screw up one of the guns by over-tweaking the convergence? Any knowledge on this matter would be helpful.

Convergence should have no effect on your guns at all. How old are your sets? The "touch focus" problem that messed with convergence seems to be a problem on older sets. I didn't have the problem with my H82, and same goes for my HX93. I exit convergence normally, using Touch Focus, and it saves my work.

artist,

Any more info for us? I'm pretty familiar with tweaking the HDX82 series sets.

I didn't see an attached photo?

Have you guys looked through the two Geometry and Convergence stickies in the Toshiba section of the forum?
