With all the questions about the 2003 models I picked up a Summer/Fall 2003 catalog with all the specs (includes dimensions and weight). They had a nice graphic that explains the model numbers, I'll try to reproduce it in text.

Sample: 65 H D X 8 2

The first two digits designate screen size in inches (65 in the sample):

13-65 inches

The first letter (H in the sample) designates display format:

A Analog
H HDTV (1080i or 720p)

The second letter (Optional - D is the sample) designates advanced design:

D DVI Connection (Designation only used on the 2002 models, The 'D' is not used on the 2003's because they have DVI and its not advanced design anymore)
F Flat (FST PURE) - Flat CRT direct view
L LCOS or LCD Flat Panel
P Plasma
VL 4:3 LCD

Third letter (Optional - X in the sample) designates:

X Cinema Series

Next to the last digit designates the main feature level (8 in the sample):

1 Derivative
2 Mono
3 Leader MTS
4 Step MTS
5 Cinema Series CTV
6 2 Tuner PIP
7 4:3 HDTV Monitor
8 16:9 HDTV Monitor
9 16:9 Integrated HDTV (Built in 8VSB {OTA} and QAM {Cable} Tuners)

The last digit is the year of production (2 in the sample):

0 2000
1 2001
2 2002
3 2003
.........

A 'W' at the very end on one model meant a 'White' cabinet.

The 14" and 20" LCD TV's have a 'U' at the end.

57U

You'll note that the 83 series don't have a "D". This is because they all have DVI. That explains the "not used" note in the above post. (elaboration of the obvious perhaps)

Fixed! I meant that the 2003's don't use the D, not that they don't have DVI. I can see how it could be read that way.

Thanks,
Lee
