hi i need help trying to buy a hdtv for my dad but i have no clue on what to buy . if someone can help oput i would apprecaite it.

im looking at this

now is this all i need do i need a decoder or the home thater system is good enough?

and should i get a warranty from the store like 5 yrs ?

The following quick comments off the top of my head regarding the TV.

1. This looks like a fairly good mid-priced TV set, so no worries there, but I didn't see HD capable for 720p signal (ABC uses this). I'm guessing this is not a necessity because most set-top boxes convert to 1080i, but you may wish to discuss this with "the experts".

2. This is a 4:3 set and you may wish to look at the 4:3 vs widescreen discussion elsewhere in this forum, just to be sure you're buying the right set, depending on what your dad watches most and how long he will keep this set... (this forum appears to be split on which way to go, so you'll need to make up your mind after you've read the input)

As for the audio portion, this will do fine, but it's about the least you can spend, so it won't have a lot of features, or a lot of power. If this is going into a big room and he likes his sound loud, you should look elsewhere. If he's like most dads I know, this will likely suffice.
