I've had mine a week as of today and its great. If you use both antenna inputs remember ant1 is for cable and ant2 is for ota. You get so exicteding hooking it up you don't read the manual right away and you spend the rest of the night frustrated.
With my cable system the built in tuner will actually pick up HD signals without the converter box.

I'm assuming that you pay for digital cable and the QAM tuner is simply picking up what you pay for.
Did you need to get the TV "tuner" "activated" by the cable company?
Did you already have another digital STB?
Most STBs have "service modes" that allow you to check signal strength, lost signals, etc. Does the internal tuner have any of that functionality?

I am paying for plain old analog cable. I use no set top box. I only get cable for ESPN during football season and don't need any movie channels.
I get channels 2-99 as before with scrambled movie channels. I now also get 50 digital music channels (worthless with the static image they leave on the screen) + INHD, INHD2 and ESPN-HD.
The tuner also locks onto at least 100 other channels, but when you tune to them you get noting. When you go to the signal meter it registers about 80, so something is coming but the tuner dosn't understand it.
Probably becuase they don't have a filter on to block these channels and these tuners are so new they aren't aware of them yet. So until they shut them off I will enjoy.:D
