I checked the specs on the Toshiba website for both the 51H83 and 51HX83. Didn't say a thing about 720p. Here's a link that says it does. 51H83 (http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=90123800) Second item in the features.

I can't belive that it doesn't. They accept 720p input and convert to 1080i. Last years model like mine does. The HDX line (now HX) takes 480i and 480p and converts to 540p, takes 720p and converts to 1080i, so you'll be watching either 540p or 1080i.

Here are the definitions for Toshiba's IDSC, the 51H83 has the IDSC Pro.

Improved IDSC™ with New Vector Progressive Scanning and New Advanced Video Noise Reduction : IDSC™ (Intelligent Digital Scan Conversion) allows all Toshiba HDTV-Compatible models to accept standard 480i, progressive scan 480p, and high-definition 1080i signals. The system automatically upconverts standard 480i signals to progressive scan 480p. And horizontal pixel doubling produces the highest-quality progressive scan images ever, resulting in a smooth, amazingly sharp, flicker-free image, with no picture-degrading motion artifacts. Toshiba has improved IDSC™ by incorporating new Vector Progressive Scanning, with artificial intelligence that avoids jagged lines caused by motion, and new Advanced Video Noise Reduction, which virtually eliminates the picture noise often referred to as snow. An Auto Mode ensures that the perfect amount of noise reduction is applied. With these advancements, the improved IDSC™ maintains its position as the industry’s best conversion system, creating movie-like images for an unparalleled home theater experience.

IDSC™ Pro : IDSC™ Pro coverts all 480i and 480p signals to 540p. Since 540p and 1080i share the same scan rate, a single focus point is established and focus compromise is eliminated. Frame, Line and Pixel doubling are all used to create progressive, full-frame images from standard interlaced signals. Our motion adaptive Hyper Progressive Scanning system analyzes 13,600 points on screen to create smooth edges and eliminate "stair stepping" artifacts. The result is a smooth, film-like image that customer can enjoy even up close, enabling placement of a larger screen in a smaller room. IDSC Pro passes through 1080i images without alteration, and now accepts 720p images and displays them as 1080i.

Benefit: A sharp, smooth, film-like image without unwanted noise and artifacts caused by other scan conversion systems.

IDSC™ II : Frame, Line and Pixel doubling are all used to create progressive, full-frame images from standard interlaced signals. Our motion adaptive Hyper Progressive Scanning system analyzes 13,600 points on screen to create smooth edges and eliminate "stair stepping" artifacts. The result is a smooth, film-like image. IDSC II passes through 1080i images without alteration.

Benefit: A sharp, smooth, film-like image without unwanted noise and artifacts caused by other scan conversion systems.

Looks like the IDSC Pro includes the IDSC II.

What about Crystal Scan all time 1080i? Is it a new scan conversion upgrade? Also, it appears the HX93 cinema series has a 56 point (or more) convergence adjustment in the user menu. Is this correct?

I'll have to do some checking, I'm not up on the new models and features. :(

I'll stop by my video store and pickup the new Toshiba booklet.
