View Full Version : Selectable resolution for 42h83?
I recently purchased a 42h83 a was very impressed with its performance right out of the box. I hear that many new sets allow you to designate which resolution you would like to view. The 42h83 automatically converts 480p to 540p and 740p to 1080i. Is this a down side, not being able to choose? Please forgive the inherent ignorance of this newbie.:D

from where i stand there is nothing wrong with this.... taking 480p and converting to 540p is fine..... taking 720p and converting to 1080i is fine also.... your tv natively displays 540p or 1080i so your good to go.............
On non-HD signals like 480i/P you may be able to select whether you wish to watch those signal in 540P or 1080i. You don't get a choice with HD signals as they're either converted from 720P to 1080i or left as 1080i.
For people with DVD players, I always recommend that you try 480i or P and 540P and 1080i (all combinations) to see which is best. It's best to do the test "blind" so that you don't know which mode you're watching.
Many people find 480P to 540P works well, as does 480i to 1080i. Mixing i & P is often not as good, but it's your choice.
Let us know if the set actually gives you the option - I know that some of the previous series did - I believe it's under "picture" settings or something.
I went through the picture pull down and the owners manual and I still cant find anything on it. I know I'm probably missing it, so if anyone knows exactly where to go I would appreciate it.
