ok i have a toshiba 57hx81. what is contrast? what is difference between contrast and brightness? i tinker with settings and right now have them set at con-10,bright-75,color-50,tint-o,sharp-40,als off,fleshtone-on,dnr-auto,cinema mode-video for dig cable,temp-cool. i like picture some what with these settings but like i said i tinker with them all the time. still searching for the perfect settings and picture.

It addresses your questions. It sounds strange but the contrast controls the white level while the brightness controls the black level. Read the FAQ, you should get one of the Setup DVD's it talks about. You'll be able to dial your set in with no guesswork. Well with the expense of a purchase.
