I have been trying to come up with a rear projection with good size screen that does not take up so much space. I had settled in on the Sony Gran Wega LCD's and Samsung DLP's in the 50 to 60 in. range. 50in does not seem big enough but the 60 is getting to big.
The Phillips 55PL9773 is new as I understand it and is 55 in. with LCOS. It is only 17.4 in deep and only 56.6 wide. Is this a good reliable tv? I am not into Phillips as a brand and is LCOS a good system. Are there any drawbacks to it I should know. Would appreciate thoughts and opinions please.

Can't answer your question - but we saw one today and the picture is awesome! We have a Mits 55711, and were feeling pretty good about it, until we saw the Phillips!

LCOS appears to be a nice technology. See the FAQ on "Types of HDTV" for the various advantages & disadvantages of each type of TV.

Awaiting feverishly. All reports I have heard is this is the dillio. 1280x1024 pc input at 85hz, is the icing.

They are in pseudo-recall and everyone is awaiting the mass release of the "fixed" Philips LCos to fix "Purple Haze".

57U, can you buy these in Canada? I've never seen any Philips Tv's in Canada before. Looks like the price compares to DLP.
I have not heard of any Phillips HDTVs in Canada. (there may be some, but the subject has not come up that I know). We do have other Phillips products. There are no Mits HDTVs either.
Even if you could get either brand, I would recommend against buying it because of potential service/knowledge issues (lack of it).
