View Full Version : Westinghouse shutting off?

My girlfriend has a 32" Westinghouse LCD HDTV. She bought it about 4 years ago. Recently, after it is on for a short while, the picture will go blank. The blue power light stays on (normally it goes to orange when there is no input or totally off when powered off.) This happens on all inputs and is starting to happen more frequently, sometimes even 4 or 5 times per evening watching. Anyone have any thoughts? I told her it's probably not worth paying for to fix, since she will more than likely pay a bench fee, and with how cheap 32" HDTVs are these days.
I should add, the only way to resolve this issue when it happens is to power off the TV and turn it back on.

Perhaps the TV is getting too warm and temperature protection is kicking in, although in that case I would have thought the TV would shut down, possibly with some sort of blinking light code. Have you tried e-mailing or calling Westinghouse or their service rep?

Try unplugging the TV overnight to see if a reset will help. See the following "things to check".

Way ahead of you. I know what to check. The overheating thought is curious though. I will have her call Westinghouse. Thanks a lot 57!

I am in the same boat, smaller screen size but same problem with westinghouse....goes black at various times but sound still on...have to turn off with remote and turn back on again....at times it will run for hour(s) with no problem it would seem overheating would cause tv to completely cut off not just picture...AARRGH

My Westinghouse was doing the same thing you described. I took the back cover off and removed the plate over the circuit board where the main power enters. I noted an arc whenever I tried to turn it on. The electric arc was due to a loose solder connection on a block next to the transformer. I removed the four screws holding this circuit board on, turned it over and resoldered the loose connection. It's know been working for the past two days without problems. I'm no wiz on electronics, but it appears so far that this arcing was causing the TV to go black.
