Has anyone experienced a SD533HD5 or other projection tv from Pioneer that has the red standby light on but can not turn on.
If I turn off unit and turn on it will come on (green light) for a second and turn off not to come on again
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Time to call a tech.
There are diagnostic LEDs inside the set in the rear that will reveal where the failure might be.
Don't keep turning it on / off, you risk additional problems.

Had a tech out and found that it was just a blown fuse, he stated that if the convergence goes to far out of wack that it could draw more power to display the picture. Not sure if this is correct or not.

Thanks for the reply Coyotes

Glad that it was something so simple.
I am not buying the Convergence / whack / fuse thing at all.
There is no additional draw of voltage whether the set is in Convergence or out.

I've had a 533HD5 for just over a year now that has always shut itself off whenever we turn the microwave on and then turn itself immediately back on.

Now the set has powered down and does the exact same thing you described(green light for a second, back down).

The set and microwave are in separate rooms. I haven't checked to see if they're on separate circuits in the house. I'd think not, the kitchen should be on its own, but our house is a notoriously cheaply built old tract home. The shutting-off-then-coming-back-on behavior was always annoying, but I had no choice about where to plug either appliance in, and figured it was something I just had to live with. The manual said the set was supposed to turn itself to discharge something, so my impression was that it was normal behavior. I guess there could be a surge in all the lines in the house when the microwave comes on, but NONE of the other appliances in the house react adversely (and the lights don't dim or brighten either). If it's a surge I guess I better invest in a power conditioner (which I really shoulda done anyway).

I scheduled a visit with the area Pioneer tech next week, but he said over the phone he couldn't think of anything and might have to replace whole subcomponents of the set. I'm thinking now the first thought in his head should have been "blown fuse" if these sets do have fuses in them. It might have been his first thought but he's looking to make some bucks (at least I got the extended warranty).

Does anyone know if it's possible for a non-tech to check the fuses? Will it void the warranty if I take the cover off, etc???

Funny you say this because the Toshiba 50H81's have had problems with Convergence boards failing due to heat sync failure and from geometry being off causing the convergence board to fail. The Tv shuts off and has to be reset. The TV picture also shakes then implodes causing the LED to flash red.
Any ideas?

How do i adjust the convergence? I have the same problem with my bulb blowing.
