Weird things at top of screen? any ideas

I just picked up a Philips 43"(43pp9202) 4:3 ratio HDTV Rear Projection TV a week ago from walmart. I noticed something strange on the set when watching a letterbox dvd on a progressive scan dvd player on the 480p(HDTV in). Its the strangest thing, at the top of the tv near the border there are these weird little white haze blocks about 3" wide and extending down 1/2", there seems to be about 4 of them at the top of the screen... then at the far right there is a similar object that has color to it.

I have tried two dvd player, both different brands... first a yamaha and then a sony, also tried two different cables both monster.

Anyone ever had a similar problem with a 4:3 hdtv and progressive scan, or could the tv possibly be defective?

I know this is an ancient thread, but I just happen to have the same problem with my Philips 51PW9303. When I called Philips, they sent out a technician to look at it. He declared that the problem was 'unfixable' and Philips decided that it wasn't their problem (this happend over three years ago, btw). In the long run, I ended up watching everything in low definition as the problem does not occur unless the display is set higher than 480i. Because of this, I will never purchase another Philips product so long as I live, and I always tell friends and family to avoid their junk as well.
