My actual first choice was the Sony 43", but it wouldn't fit (by an inch) into my armoire because it was a couple inches deeper than the Hitachi. I also looked at the 43" Toshiba and thought the Hitachi was a sleeker looking set. I am very satisfied with the set so far, although I haven't tried it with any HDTV content yet. I have DISH, but don't have the 6000 receiver. The stations in the West Palm Beach area don't start broadcasting until May 1st, so I will make the conversion then to HDTV. But DVD's and the DISH look great.

Finally set up the set to get HDTV with an OTA antenna. Watched a HDTV demo on PBS, and it was awesome. This set blew me away with its high definition performance, especially since it is a reasonably priced set below $2,000.

Hello all, I just got my Hitachi 43FDX10 and have just recently been able to pull my jaw up off my chest...all I can say is it looks amazing (See photo) I have been doing some research and can't seem to find the answer to this question. If I had an antenna that was able to pick up OTA signals from a transmitter broadcasting HDTV do I need a set-top box or can the coax input decode the signal on it's own? I realize that I will need to upgrade my Sat. Boxes but there dosen't seem to be enough content available to justify the expense right now so if I could pick up the networks in HDTV or SDTV OTA I would be happy for now.

Thanks for any help and I'd like to hear from anybody else who has the 43FDX10 and what they think of it.

Great post. I'm just not completely sure that I'm understanding the depth to this.
Can anybody explain this out a little bit more?
