Hey, so here it is, my first post. Feel free to bask in the glow of my newbie-ness.

Unbelievable, but I actually waited over 24 hours after owning a piece of new technology before scouring the internet to find a place to read & discuss it (i.e. TiVo, super-duper universal remote, home theater audio equipment, etc.).

So now here I am, having owned my RCA P61310 for just over a day, prepped to run her through the paces of my Video Essentials DVD tonight, and having only about half taught my MX-500 remote how to talk to her.

So with the stage set, here's my first of no doubt many questions which I'm hoping you, the informed & initiated, can shed some light upon.

I read in my manual (can you believe I actually read some of that?) that if I'm a DirecTV subscriber (which I'm not) I'll have two program guides, the DTV guide, and the local programming guide (I have cable). If I'm not a DirecTV subscriber (again, not), then I'll have only the local programming guide.

This struck me as surprising, and I've yet to be able to verify the manual's claims. This implies that, although I don't have a DirecTV account, by hooking into a phone line I will receive programming information pertinent to my cable company like my TiVo does.

Can that be so? I hooked into the phone line so she could call out when she wants, but I haven't seen any data come in thus far.

Did I misunderstand the manual, or is it misleading, or a little of both, or none of the above?
