View Full Version : Safe to switch Convergence IC's?

Hey everyone, I had the problem with the flickering screen, and wavyness. Also convergence problems. Well, I pulled out the Hyper Module (MVPU13) and attempted to resolder in 11 new capacitors. I used 35v 10uf caps.. as I was told they would work as the voltage was not critical. Well I had trouble with removing about 3 of the caps... the solder was poor and well I think I made more of a mess of things. The tv was shotty to start with, but now the front power led just flashes red. The board number that I can read are 23599087b and PD02641 but I am unable to find any of these by searching online. I was thinking to just replace the board and get better solder and replace the two STK392-110's with STK392-150's to fix the convergence issue as well. I am not a total novice at this, but it was very tricky work, and I probable should have done this in better light, on a table, and with better solder... oh and not at 4AM in the morning! What options do I have now if this board is not available anymore? Kindest Regards, -Dan

I have been reading a lot online these past couple of weeks, and I was just wondering if its safe to switch up to the STK392-150 IC on my 42H81 if I need to replace the STK392-110 chips that are currently in it? I know its meant to be done on the sony, or hitachi models, and there is a kit that comes with resistors etc... but will that same kit work for the toshiba television sets?

Why not contact the place with the kits for the appropriate ICs and resistors?

Threads merged - no need for a new thread on the same topic.

Just trying to understand if its safe to upgrade the ICs for the toshiba sets,... understandably it is for others, but its hard to decipher one thread to the next with the convergence issues, because a thread in the toshiba hdtv sets merges to other tvs and then conflicts with components that possibly don't work with the related original post. I'll just stick with the STK392-110's, order them up and write this off as a waste of time. Appreciate your comments.

The STK392-110 in these sets can and should be upgraded to either the STK392-150 or the STK394-160. The latter is the far better choice.

The most important thing is to buy whatever chips you use from a vendor that understands the source of their parts and sells only original Sanyo first quality parts. There are only a handful of suppliers that I trust. There is more info including threads with info on reliable parts suppliers here:

Thanks, that is a very handly link, and it sounds like you know what you are talking about. Its going to take me a while to read it all, and I might have questions later. My MVPU13 board is hopefully right now with PTS Electronics getting fixed, once I get it back I will test to see if the tv is better, and if not, I will need to replace the convergence ic's. I feel like I will be much more prepared for doing the job this time. Thanks.

Well according to PTS the board is NFG, now I am left with a 225lb paper weight? This is ridiculous? Does anyone know where else the board can be send to be repaired, or where a replacement could be purchased from? Thanks
