I have a Toshiba 51H83. It has a problem. The set will power on, but there is no picture and no sound. No matter what button I push, the TV doesn't respond at all -- except to display its little red light when I push on the power button. I am assuming it is an electrical problem in back, rather than a bulb problem, since both the image and sound are affected by it. Any advice?
Your TV doesn't have a bulb, it's a CRT-based RPTV. When you have the flashing red light, there's not much most people can do other than call service.

Thanks for your response. The power light in front isn't flashing. It just comes on, and looks normal except for the fact that there is no picture and sound.
Have a look at the following, especially points 19, 13.

Those are good tips -- and I will go home and try the button thing from point 19. But I bought this TV used, last night, for a very cheap price. The guy who sold it to me explained that it was working up to a point, and then the image began to "jump" and then went out. For a time, he said, he could tap on the top of the set, and the jumping would stop. But one day, it just stopped working. Still, the power button comes on when you turn it on -- and doesn't flash.
When tapping on the TV fixes it, this is often a sign of a poor connection somewhere, perhaps some cracked solder on a board. It may be quite difficult to diagnose. Good Luck.
