Hey all, I just recently bought a new Pro520 HD and have been real happy so far. The only problem I have is that on some programming (both HD and regular) if there is a scene with someones face (particularly someone with a pale complexion) certain parts of the face appear to have a red splochiness to them. I'm probably not describing this too well but I'm hoping somebody else has experienced this and knows what I'm talking about. I have attempted to make adjustments to remedy this but to no avail. Any ideas????
Thanks!

Dan, welcome to the forum.

This "splotchiness" (sp?) can sometimes come from too much signal compression on digital channels, however, it can often be exacerbated by the automatic settings on your TV (like SVM) and too high a "sharpness".

I have, quite franky, never seen this on HD material though - only SD digital...

Check out the FAQ section on the home page, especially the post "What you need to do to your new HDTV". By properly tuning up your TV, you often eliminate the majority of these problems.

I just read on another forum, that "compression artifacts" or "splotchiness", (especially if they occur on HD signals) can be the result of a faulty STB.

With experience, we've all recognized compression artifacts that are "normal" on some digital signals, especially ones that have a lot of movement...

OK, I have played and played with the settings with few results. I just ordered the AVIA and will see what that does for me. It's frustrating because my TV looked so good at the store. or was I just kidding myself? Don't get me wrong, some channels look awesome. HDNet for instance. But I'm beginning to realize there is a big difference between programs that were obviously produced with the intention of being shown in HD and those that aren't. That and compression are the two big culprits here.
Is an HDNet quality picture what we have to look forward to in the future or will it always be a mixture of good and bad like we have now? Is it just that they don't all have there stuff together yet or is this as good as it gets? I guess nobody really has that answer yet. I still love my new TV!!!! I just hope that the HD broadcasts of the future can live up to the capabilities of my new set.
