View Full Version : LG 42LC2D, not a sharp pic in the store, is it the store feed?

I'm in the market to buy a TV and am currently looking at the LG 42" 42LC2D TV. I have been to a few stores to see it in person, for some reason certain things just seem pixelated to me. I'm not sure if it is the signal coming into the TV or maybe the settings the store has it set to, but the picture does not seem to be as clear as I would have liked.

The Samsung 40" LCD HDTV (LN-S4041D) is also available at my local store for the same price of about $1200. The picture on the Samsung looked a lot clearer to me, but I'm not sure if it is the feed, or if the Samsung just has a better picture and is a better TV. I have to decide asap since there is only 1 Samsung left that I could get shipped into my local store.

I know Samsung inflates their contrast ratio, between them both, which one should have a better picture?

The QAM tuner that the LG has really doesn't do much for me since I'll have a cable box, the TV itself looks sharper with the glossy black finish.

Can someone suggest one between the 2? I have to make my decision ASAP.

I'd really appreciate any feedback as I've narrowed my selections to these 2 and have to buy one as soon as possible.

Thanks,
~J

Please see the HDTV FAQ "What you need to do to your new HDTV".

You can rarely properly compare TVs in stores because you never know how they're set up, or what they're connected to.

I have recommended the 4041 to several friends and relatives who also bought them. I set them up and they look pretty good. They're not the best TV out there, but at the price they're good value.

i know u cant tell since they could each be setup differently. i was just wondering to find out which has the better picture how you can compare the contrast ratios since one is dynamic and one is not. i had liked the samsung all along but i had some people trying to talk me into the LG. the LG has a sharper looking cabinet being glossy black, but im not sure. As i was saying before if i want the samsung i have to act fast since i believe they only have 1 in stock

Is there anyway to compare the 2 specs wise as far as picture quality sice the ones in the store probably are not configured properly?

Thanks,

~J

i bought the 42lc2d and i am quite happy with it, the sound is absolutly wonderful, and i really dont know what pixelation your talking about. There obviously is pixelation on regular tv stations but on a hd channel it is absolutely stunning!

this tv is great and i really dont see any negatives..

i suggest you use cnet to look for reviews
