I have a new Vizio GV42L - 42" LCD HDTV that when I connect it to my Time Warner DVR with the HDMI cable the picture in any mode other than 1080i is jagged and off center. If I connect with component cable it works fine, but i am not benefiting from the digitial interface then. Of course Vizio blames TW and TW blames Vizio.

Can someone help with this?

Sounds like an issue with the TV, not the STB. Some TVs simply have poor upconversion (and geometry issues) and the STB actually does a better job.

Have a look at the HDTV FAQ "tips for SA STBs" if that helps.

If the picture looks the same using CV instead of HDMI, use CV. - See the FAQ "DVI/HDMI Information".

If you have a friend or neighbour with an HDTV and TW take the STB over to his place and see. The STB will usually reboot in a different location as long as it's not too far away.

I have a vizio 42 with a SA8300 cable box. I had to change the picture format on the cable box in the menu. I dont remember what I set it to but playing with that setting fixed mine. hope this helps
