I'm still getting a fail on the self diagnostic on "SUB". I replaced the signal convergence board which I purchased from PTS corp for about $170. The job took about a 2 hours. It was very easy. If I had to do it again it would take 30-45 minutes. I did the manual convergence (56 pt) and got it really tight. Picture looks great (although the kids say it looks weird, I told them it is because they've been watching a broken TV for two weeks and got used to it).
Anyway although the TV looks great but I still get "Touch Focus Error" and a red "sub" on the self diagnostic. So obviously it wasn't that easy. Perhaps that error has been there long before the convergence problem and it is not of any consequence but if there's something I didn't do I want to do it. The manual has some procedure for swapping some memory chip back and forth which I did not do since I didn't see it any where on the board. I can live with it and hey I saved myself $300-400!
Also this TV has always had problems with being too dark. The darker the room it seems the darker the picture. Is that just a part of this model TV. Is there some type of gain adjustment.
The TV is still incredible in HD 5 years after I bought it, however, I'm guessing this is not the last time I'll be replacing the signal convergence board since this is my second one (last one under warranty).
