I was practicing the art of lens striping yeseterday so i took my TV scren off to get the the guns...Anyway after everything was done and everything was put back together I did a service menu convergence. after the convergence I saved the settings and proceeded to do a touch focus. after the touch focus the monitor displayed an error message "Touch Focus Error TBLR"
I searched google and this forum but haven't figured out how to fix it. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks Dan.

Greetings

did you plug the TF wires back?

That's the wire harness that connects to the monitor screen right? I know I plugged them in. However, I do recall while working on the TV I accidentally tugged a little hard on the screen and pulled them out. Maybe a wire in the harness got loose.

Anyway, before I go and take the whole thing apart again, do you know of any thing else that could cause this error that would take less time to investigate? If not I will take it apart again and check the connection.

PS. What do these TF wires do? I mean Front projection systems just have a plain white screen, no wires attached and they look really good.

Greetings

Part of the touch focus system ... they connect to the sensors on the screen that make the TF work ...

Too little overscan or excessive image shift also causes errors.

leno. After I do the service convergence, I never use touch focus (magic focus on Hitachi) again, until I do the service convergence again in 6-12 months.

If you don't NEED to use touch focus, you could probably save yourself some time trying to find the problem (which is likely a loose wire or connection).

The sensors on the screen are used to do the convergence by measuring the light coming to them from the CRTs, but there are only a few sensors, so this is never as good as the many (56?) point convergence in the service menu.

I see your point. However reading over the service manual for my Tosh it says:
After I am completed working in the service menu convergence grid, press the number "7" on my remote and then press the "Touch Focus" button on the monitor control panel.. So I figured if I didn't perform the "Touch Focus" step as noted in the service manual that it wouldn't save?

I have a Tosh 51H84

Thanks for your help.
Dan.

In the earlier days...back in the 81 series, there was much debate about the use of Touch Focus, as some found that it screwed up whatever convergence work they had done.
I believe that whatever the problem was, it was resolved. I had an 82 that never had that problem, and I always use it on my HX93. When convergence drifts, it does bring it back, although not always perfect. But if I don't want to do a full 56pt conv. at the moment, I'll use TF.

On my H83 I use Touch Focus with no problems but then again I did not stripe the lens...Unneccessary IMHO, at least on my set in my environment...
