I apoligize if this is an idiotic question that everyone knows the answer to... but me. And my HDPV... R whatever...terminology sucks too! :headb:

Coles Notes:

Hooked up new 52 Toshiba DLP to new Rogers HDPVR. I did the set-up etc, get HD, it switches between 480 and 1080 depending on channel like it should...etc.

But...

If I hit the channel button on the TV remote by accident it kicks me outta 1080. No HDTV. It resorts to 480i and even the resolution on a 480i channel is worse. It doesnt matter if I am watching a HD channel and/or show or not. I have to either unplug the HDPVR to re-boot (argh). Or run the Rogers HD set-up menu to re-configure the auto resolution HD auto switching.

Make sense?

Plus, how do I control the volume on the TV with the HDPVR remote volume? I configured the PVR remote but it only turns on/off the TV, no volume adjustability.

tks in advance
:thankyou3

Which make/model HD PVR do you have? Rogers have several models and they have different ones in Atlantic Canada Saying "Canada" in your profile isn't very helpful. Perhaps you could put a city and your service provider in your profile. I'll help us help you in the future.

1. Don't hit the channel button on the TV remote. I don't know what it's doing, but that IR frequency is somehow affecting the signal from the HD PVR...

2. See the operating manual for the PVR remote. Once you've programmed the code for the device, you still need to tell the remote to control the volume for that particular device. (I have mine controlling my A/V Receiver).

There are two steps - one for the device code and one to tell it which device you want the volume to control (in different parts of the manual if you have an SA PVR). You can programme the remote for several devices - TV, DVD, VCR, AVR, etc

You don't even need to switch to that device to have the volume controlled if you do it correctly.

I called the Roger Tech and they told me that they don't support HDMI ???

They told me to unplug the cable and hook up the component video wires... and now it works? Wow. Volume works now too!

tks for your insight

Although Rogers do not support HDMI - no service providers do, many people have their SA8300HDs hooked up to their TVs via HDMI.

Volume works how? Probably via the STB. This is done by setting the audio settings in the STB to "variable". I thought you wanted to control the volume via the TV. Up to you.

You cannot use "variable" on the STB for the Dolby Digital setting on the STB, so once you hook up to an A/V receiver and want DD, you'll need to do the proper remote setup.
