I just recently bought my Vizio L37, and I've come to the realization that this hdtv does not have HDCP support. For those of you that don't know what HDCP is, it's, from what I understand, a method of copyright protection. Meaning, if your tv does not have this option, chances are, a lot of HD content might not be even be viewable; including cable, satellite, DVD players, and the PS3. This comes as a big shock to me, considering I bought this tv for the hdtv capabilites, yet my tv will become absolete once HDCP supported material becomes the mainstream, probably THIS YEAR! Please someone tell me I'm wrong, but it looks as if I'm not. :headb:

From what I can see online the L37 has HDCP support via DVI, what makes you think it doesn't? You could always return it and get one of the newer ones with HDMI, it's got content protection built into the standard.

Where online did you see that it supported HDCP? I can't find it anywhere.
P.S. I just bought it two days ago, so I must have the newest model.

Where online did you see that it supported HDCP?
Page 22 of the manual?
Note:
a) The HDMI input on your LCD TV supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP).
HDCP encrypts the transmission between the video source and the digital display for
added security and protection.
b) Refer to your HDTV Set-Top Box user manual for more information about the video output
requirements of the product or consult your satellite or cable operator.

Thank you Ratman, for proving me wrong. I was getting worried because it wasn't written on the tv or on their website or anywhere else on the internet. Lo and behold, I should have looked in the manual, where I should have looked in the first place. Again, thank you.

Does your TV have DVI or HDMI inputs? From what I could find earlier models had DVI.
all Vizio 37" LCD's came with one HDMI input plus various other analogue inputs
no DVI

I just picked one of these sets up and was almost shocked when I started reading this. The set is really nice I must say. I'm really impressed by the picture quality. I was skeptical about buying a "no name" brand TV but this set really looks good. The only thing I wish it had was 2 HDMI inputs. Beggers can't be choosers on a 37 inch LCD HDTV for 1295 and a 4 year warranty for 179.
I read some reviews at consumer reports, cnet, and sound and vision magazine and they all gave Vizio good remarks, so I took the plunge and picked one up.

I too own the same tv, and I went to circuit city and bought a dvi to hdmi adapter and a 6.6 ft cable of HDMI cable. The adapter connected to the back of my cable box from timewarner (DVR system that only has DVI on the back) then from it, I connected the hdmi cable on that end, and on the other end my L37. I switched the input to "DIGITAL HD" and I got this message.
"YOUR HDTV DOES NOT SUPPORT HDCP. PLEASE USE THE YPRPB COMPONENT CONNECTION TO WATCH TELEVISION"
Although I did read in the manual as you stated about it being compatible, yet I'm getting that message. Could that be a Time Warner issue? I just joined this forum and I searched for this kind of problem so I posted up on here instead of starting a new thread. I hope the "OP" doesn't mind... Thanks in advance.

1) Could be a setup problem in the cable box.
2) Try a different power up sequence of the TV and cable box.
3) Verify that HDMI is enabled/supported by the cable provider.
4) bad cables or adapter.

Most thanks, I tried all of that and found out this.
the cable box timewarner gave me, the ecostar 8000 is not compatible to give out HDMI. I have to go to the timewarner store on Monday and get a new upgraded model, the 8300.
Thanks again, I appreciate it. I'm glad it's something small and not the tv or the cables I just bought :)
The 8000HD has DVI output, but should be HDCP compliant when using DVI to HDMI connection. The SA8300HD has HDMI out and you should have no issues if the TV is HDCP compliant. You'll need an HDMI to HDMI cable, instead of DVI/HDMI. If you were using an adaptor, that can sometimes cause issues

57U,
Hey thanks, upon more reading on this site, I saw that people on here talk that the adapters may be the problem. I didn't have the DVI to HDMI cable, so i wasn't able to test that theory. All in all, I see it better that I get a HD DVR 8300 as it supports the HDMI (better I think, so I dont have to deal with the whole DVI to HDMI adapter, then get audio cables...)
I'll be returning it today, and swap out for my new 8300 :P, stop off at Circuit city and return the adapter that I wont need anymore :)
Thanks again guys

I have the same issue of HDCP not being recognized from a Time Warner Cable Box the box is a 8300HCA HDTV DVR. I called vizio today and the tech said that it must have been a bad cable. My TV was produced in January of this year. The Tech assured me that indded the TV does support HDCP because it is standard. I attempted to attach the Cable box via HDMI and I got the Notice of NO SUPPORT FOR HDCP so I attached it via component. DRAGON79---Did your box end up working?
Post 13 is from almost 2 years ago... Dragon was last on the site 1.5 years ago.
See the following for information on HDMI issues, which are quite common, hence the FAQ.
