I recently purchased a sharp lc-45gd7u and am currently using Motorola DCT-6200 cable box from comcast cable. However, in the future I would like to install both a blue-ray DVD recorder and a High Definition DVR. I could use the Motorola 6412 from comcast as the DVR or purchase a Sony DHGHDD250 DVR with a cable card in the Sony but I think that neither DVR would not allow the blue-ray recorder to be installed since I think both would require pre-component input. I expect that in the future, the HD DVRs would have to have an ilink (IEEE1394) connection to drive the blue-ray DVD recorder in order to make both of them work.
Even if in the future, they supply an ilink connection on the DVR, this seems to be a very messy solution. Therefore, I'd like to try to use the ilink connection on the sharp TV to try to solve this problem (this tv supports, D-VHS, blue-ray, and AVHDD through the ilink connection). The issue is that neither the ilink connection or On Screen TV Guide will work if you use the component connection from the cable box (sharp says to use the video connection which will eliminate high def). So I'll first have to try to get a cable card working which I hear could be a major problem. But, if I get that working, then I would like to get the AVHDD working (which I think is just a High Definition DVR that is driven by the TV).
So here is the question, does anyone know which AVHDD will work with the ilink connection? I've been investigating this problem and I think the RCA DVR10, RCA DVR2160, and the Toshiba 160HD4 are the only AVHDDs available on the market. Will any of these work with the ilink connection and does anyone know of any other AVHDDs? The Toshiba 160HD4 states that it will only work with the Toshiba TVs but I think that Toshiba doesn't want to be bothered if you have problems attaching it to another type of TV.
