View Full Version : geometry question on my 51hx83

Ok, I have a template and I go into the service menu and set my geometry perfectly. Then when I put on the overscan display pattern on my DVE disc, it's at a perfect 5% on 480P. My DVD player upconverts, so when I look at 1080i or 720p the geometry is still out of whack. The overscan isn't uniform at all. How in the world do I fix that? I cannot figure it out. Is there some way to change the resolution you are working on in the service menu or something? Do you have to do each resolution seperately somehow?

From what I understand, Yes you must align the convergence grids on each resolution 480p, 1080i separately.
I might be wrong, but I believe which convergence grid you access depends on what resolution your TV is displaying when you enter the grid.

I noticed a similar issue with my 50H81, while I was watching standard TV I entered the grid and aligned it fairly well, then put my DVE disc in the DVD player at 1080i and noticed several small convergence errors.
Once I entered the service grid using the upconverted 1080i signal, it seems to have aligned that resolution as well.

If your model has the Touch Focus feature (and this one does), then it has only one scan rate, and therefore only one setting for geometry/convergence.

If there's more overscan when outputting a 1080i or 720p signal from your upsampling DVD player, it's probably the DVD player's fault.
