Does anyone here have, or know anyone that has experience with this set? I've googled it and cant seem to find any reviews up just yet. I'm having an issue deciding on a DLP set. The October Sound and Vision reviewed the HP Pavillion 65" DLP and the reviewer said it had the best PQ of any DLP set he's seen and second best RPTV he's tested (second to Sony's $13k Qualia). I like the HP having all of the source connections being in the front and having the ability to run the wires hidden in the frame of the stand. The only con I can come up with on the HP is that they're "rookies" in the television market, where Toshiba has a proven track record. It looks like the HP is gonna hit about the same price point as the Toshi as well, so I'm sure anyone reading this sees where the dilemma comes in.
For anyone who hasn't seen SaV's write up on the HP: http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=876
Any input would be very much appreciated, thanks.

Have you tried the AVS forum: The Toshiba DLP (HM/HMX) Owners Thread.

I have not seen a review as yet on this model.
Based on owning a 62HM94 and looking at the specs that are posted, I would expect this set to perform like last year's 62HMX94. That makes it part of the Cinema Series, which has the best connectivity options (2 HDMI ports I think) and features.
My 62HM94 has been awesome, performance was great right out of the box. I will get it calibrated in the next few months hopefully.
I would be leary of buying the HP set; one review doesn't make it the real deal. I'd expect that someone is building them for HP. Have you been able to find out via the Internet what company it might be? I would look int it.
Good luck

Just as an fyi, Optoma is currently the builder of HP's DLP sets. They source Plasmas from a different source but the rptv's are all Optoma. I would also stick with the Toshiba and would actually go for the 62HM195 unless you need the few bells and whistles of the MX Cinema series and don't mind the additional coin needed.

I looked at 3 52" Toshibas and all had the same problem.
With a signal from a B&K 1253 HD generator, vertical lines were distorted as a excessive level or the input sensistivity was too high (too much gain). Also the darker steps of a greyscale had alot of noise.
Both symtoms indicated to be excessive gain in the input stages (component input only). I would consider that a deal breaker. :boo2:
I think you have to buy HP ink cartridges with the lamp when it burns out.

I would like some help from anyone that has this TV and how they like it.
After spending hours of browsing reviews and other models, this TV has it all ( I Hope ).
I am also afraid of an online purchase. There are none in stock locally.
62mx195 (cinema Series ) Also interested in Sony R60 XBR LCoS
.
But I keep going back to the Toshiba.

I have had a nearly identical 62HM195 unit for about a week. I am HIGHLY displeased, and have been talking to the dealer about sending it back.
The picture is great, but the cooling fan runs 24 hours per day. It is instantly noticeable at 10 feet, even after the set has been off for hours. The HD tuner apparently runs all the time to support the TV Guide feature. (Which is poorly implemented and hard to use, by the way.)
The thing draws a whopping 26 watts just sitting there “off”. At my current electricity rate, that amounts to an extra $38 per year for the TV Guide feature. The print version (which seems to have disappeared) was cheaper.
Guess the “Energy Star” thing didn’t make it across the Pacific. What a waste! With all the efforts to reduce energy consumption, for Toshiba to come out with something like this is just dumb.
But the real problem is that after the set has been on for a few hours, the fan speeds up and becomes really objectionable. It can be clearly heard during breaks in the dialog, and even makes quieter dialog harder to understand.
I’m not super critical and I’m in my 60’s, so my hearing is not what it used to be. If it bothers me, I suspect that it will bother lots of people.
I'm also wondering why I spent over $2000 for a surround sound system when the damned fan is going to screw up the audio. :boo2:
This design is poorly worked out, and in my opinion, not ready for prime time.
Think carefully before you buy one of these.

Someone else other than me in one of these forums isn't a energy hog and is concerned about wasting electricity!
Don't get the Mits, it's as bad. I can't believe these manufactures need to design these sets with the 'M$ like bloat' features that would need anthing near that kind of power consumption to operate a tuner and other related circuits just for a damn TV Guide listing that is a pain in the ass in the first place! :( The JVC for example, only draws around 10 watts when off.
They couldn't get their magazine right, so they are trying some other avenue.
As far as fan noise, this isn't the only set. Many complained about the Mits also. The CC fan cycles on and off

This is just one of the many reasons that I'm still a "CRT-guy" :)
Best picture, and best price...if you can still find one.
