View Full Version : 51H83 - adjust horizontal screen position

Any guidance would greatly be appreciated.
All pictures from every input on my set (hd receiver, xbox, dvd player) are shifted off to the right. The obvious reason why i can tell this is happening is when I'm viewing images with a 4:3 letterbox, the right black strip is about half the size of the left strip. Also, when viewing widescreen images the network logos in the bottom right of the screen are sometimes shifted so much that they're cut in half.
Picture quality is great - as sharp as can be - but the entire image is off-center.
Do i need to enter service mode to adjust screen position? If so...how can i do this easily??
Thanks guys,
marcher

I was able to get into service mode on my 51H83, but no HPOS or VPOS options were available. adjusting the Width didn't solve my problem either - really need the shift to get the image centered.
I entered service mode and made my adjustments while viewing Component Video input sources (HD Receiver and Xbox) and scrolled through the entire list without finding HPOS or VPOS (the list jumps from SCNT sub contrast to HIT height).
any further suggestions?
thanks for your help guys

BTW what are you using for a guide? I hope a HT disk like AVAI or DVE..
You may want consider using a gid or overlay to center the picture as wellas do service mode convergence

gopher - thanks for the link to nick's page. however, he only addresses how to correct horizontal image position within ADDR mode...and i don't have the remote for that and was trying to avoid buying one for only this reason.
kevin - thanks again. not using a guide. i was hoping to just adjust the image position a notch at a time until i liked the result. i'm satisfied with my picture quality at this time and don't want to buy any third party dvds/guides for detailed adjustments. i've had the set for 2 years and i'm totally satisfied with all previous calibrations with the exception of the off-center picture.
thanks again guys
