I hooked up my samsung SIR-T165 this week and notice that with several digital broadcast that when my STB is tuned to the HD (ie 12-1, 1-1) there are black bars to the left and the right of the almost 4:3 size image. My Hitachi 43UWX10B remote will not operate to fill the screen! Any idea of what may be improperly set?
Is it possible the broadcast is the problem? From what I understand, ALL HD broadcasts are in widescreen format ONLY.
HELP!!
The image you are seeing with those black bars on the side is in fact 4:3 within a 16:9 image. However since the STB is outputting 1080i and sending the signal as a widescreen one (this is what the STB is recieving). Since it is being sent as 1080i the TV will not allow you to format the frame since it in fact believes that the image is widescreen and hence is already filling up the screen. If you change the output of the STB to an analog one via an analog output you will be able to format the picture. This is the best thing to do and when HD def/ actual 16:9 programming is on you just flip the switch back and change inputs.
