Hello everyone. I just purchased my first rear projection a couple of weeks ago. Toshiba 46HMX85. So far happy with the set. A little rainbow effect once in a while. Does anyone know if my model has a screen saver or shield on it? Thanks, John

Basicly if there is a glare on the screen there is a screen protector. Most of the DLP/LCD sets nowadays do not have them so I would pressume not. Double check your instructions for features and cleaning of the screen. That should tell you for sure. Hope this helps.

Thanks Splicer
The screen is non-glare and very smooth. Would that be a screen saver of some sort? Recently spoke to a local TV store. They said that rear projection screens will have a textured feel to them. If it was smooth than that would be a screen saver. Who knows how accurate some of these guys are.
Some screen protectors are smooth. Some are not. Depends on the type/manufacturer. Please do not call them "screen savers". A screen saver is something else, usually intended to preclude burn in by putting a moving (or totally black) image on the screen.
Most sales people know very little about their product.

You do not have a screen protector

Either you have the lenticular screen with nothing to protect it, which will feel like a series of ridges, or you have a built in screen protector. I'm quite sure you have the latter. Nearly ever RPTV that has been made in the last 5 years has a built in screen protector. At one time, they were optional features (like my Mitsubishi back in 1998) that cost you extra. Now they are built in. The only thing that seems to vary is whether they have anti-reflective coatings or not.
