Does anyone else experience a lightening of the top picture screen? I am experiencing a lightening -- making the top sceen appear more gray than dark -- and am wonderig if anyone has that problem, and if so, what can be done to reduce it. FYI: I only experience this problem when the programming is at 1080i. Thanks.

The 34HF85 has the same problem, and based on the postings to the AVS Forums, it seems to be endemic (i.e., almost everyone, if not everyone, who has a 34HF85 and has posted to the forums there, has this problem).
I think there may be a design problem in the component inputs used for all the new xxHF85 models. One workaround is to set your input device to 720p and let the TV convert to 1080i, and you may also have better luck using HDMI input if you can, but I know this is little consolation. I'm seriously considering returning my new 34HF85, and Toshiba is going to have serious problems if they don't fix this before it becomes well known.

I thought it was a problem with my comcast cable box component output so I switched over to DVI/HDMI and the problem went away. I did not try setting the cablebox output to 720p as suggested.

Thank you both for your postings. I have been able to keep this problem under raps by reducing the brightness without screwing up the picture. Yeah, I also noticed that by setting the picture to 720p, the lines dissapate. So I guess this may be a temporary solution until I purchase a DVI/HDMI cable. Thanks once again for your time -- I have been waiting a while for a response, so anything helps. Have a good one.

Wow. It first took me a while to figure out it was only happening on 1080i out of my HD8000 cable box. Now I have just spent the better part of my evening swapping component cables (digging through my storage for any decent RCA cable I can find) and switching between the two component inputs (34HF85) trying to figure out why I had the same faint grey bar (or fading bar of sorts) at the top of my screen (I've had this (my first HD set) tv for 3 days. I then noticed it goes away at 720p, and that I never see it coming out of my DVD player... now I read this thread and feel somewhat quite relieved to see some answers. I was about to either take the t.v. back and try my luck with another, or wait until Time Warner had some HD8300 cable boxes available (HDMI OUT) to see if it went away with HDMI.
It's not horrible. If the source image is full and bright you never notice. But soon as it's dark enough at the top it sticks out. Now that I see it and have battled it all day - I know it will bug the living sh17 out of me for as long as I have the set....
so - do I take this thing back and get a different TV, or live with it?? Can anyone else who has the same problem verify that the image is stable at 1080i using HDMI ?? If that's the case, I may live with it.
