Hello all,
I am in the market for an HDTV for Mainly DVD and XBOX usage. I luike the fact that it has DVI for HDTV connectivity. I was impressed bythe GWX model visually when I saw it in PC Richard today. I noticed on the Hitachi web site that they have three other classes of product, UWX, TWX, SWX, but I can't find a big difference between them. What are they if any and what are your reccomendations?
Thanks,
Jack
gwinters, welcome to the forum:
Here is some information that should help you with your comparison:
Since you aren't looking at the "X" series which has the internal ATSC tuner, my recommendation would be the "S". It has the best picture and features.
I have the "U" myself and am very happy with it. I purchased the "U" last year because the "S" cost a lot more in 2001. If I were buying this year, I'd probably get the "S" because I can afford it, but for people with less money to spend, the G or U will be just fine.

Thanks 57U
There is a lot of great information in this forum. I am happy I stumbled across it.
I did notice the biggest difference may be the CRT. The one for the s series is different than th one fpr the u and g. Does anyone have infrmation on these? the differences? pros and cons?
New Hybrid wide neck CRT's fo the s series
New High Brightness CRT's for the u and g
Thanks,
Jack
There aren't really any "cons" associated with the better CRTs on the "S", except $. They do provide a clearer, more detailed picture. If you can find a couple of calibrated Hitachis side-by-side at a smaller retailer, that's probably the only way you'll be able to see the difference. Most Big-box stores don't calibrate, so the comparison would typically be useless at one of these stores...
The comparison would be similar to the differences between the Toshiba H & HDX series, although I don't find the "H" as good as the Hitachi "U", and I have seen all of these sets calibrated... The Toshiba HDX would be similar to the Hitachi "S".
The other thing to look for is the TWX model. Essentially the same as the SWX, but with a better glare screen (same as topline XWX model). This can be a big deal if your room has a lot of natural light. Also looks a little better (subjective) with some fake black marble on the front posts. Breaks up the boring all grey look of the SWX. Should be able to negotiate the TWX for maybe $150 or so over the SWX.

well I got the 65TWX20b model and I am very happy. The glare isn't that bad. HD channels are terrific. Digital channels are good. Analog channels, well, aren 't that great. It really points out how bad the signal quality can impact performance.
