I just bought a Sylvania plasma display and a ViewSonic STB. I hook the STB via the component input into the display but the display keep saying that there is no signal. The only setup that work is that if I connect the box into the regula Video input. The display's manual says that the component input will accept any of these: 480i, 480p, 1080i, 720p. I wonder why It didn't work. Does anyone have experience with Sylvania 6842PE 42" or might know what the problem is?

Thanks.

When you say "regular video input" do you mean the s-video input? Is there a switch on the back of the STB for output selection?

Does the component video output of the STB have to be enabled/configured?
Also...if you have multiple video connections in any given input/output, remove all but the component cables. Many times, devices will not allow simultaneous video connections.

I've done all of that... set the STB output switch to component and pull all other inputs from the display except for the component input but it still doesn't work.

Oh, when I said regular video input I meant RCA jack. I don't have a S-Video cable yet so I haven't try the S-Video input.

AND the STB?

The STB is connected via "component input" into the display, which doesn't work for me right now.

Could it be this easy?

How about this from your user's manual:
COMPONENT: Input terminals for a component signal. You can make a Y-Cb-Cr interlaced connection to component 1 or Y-Pb-Pr progressive or interlaced connection to component 2.

Are you connected using Component 2? (Component 1 is only interlaced... no HD)

My question regard Component 2 only. The user's manual says that component 1 only accepts 480i and component 2 accepts all format(480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i). That's why I want to use component 2 input. It seem like that component 2 doesn't work for some reason.

You never said you were using Comp 2. That's why I checked your manual and offered the suggestion.

Set the STB to output 480i. Does the TV work?
If it does, then try 480p. Does it work?

If not... you want to try using Comp. 1. Perhaps the TV is miswired internally or...... maybe the manual contains a typographical error.

I'm currently using component 1 with STB set to 480i. It's work well. I've tried every setting for component 2 with no luck...not even with 480i. I contacted the customer support but they just give me the runaround. It seem like they're reading straight from the user's manual.

Thanks for your help anyway :) I'll stick with component 1 for now until I'll figure something else out.

Sonny.

If component 2 doesn't even work with 480i... then get the set serviced/replaced.
