View Full Version : 50H81 and HDTV programming -- doesn't look normal

I have owned a 50H81 for almost one year. This past week, I sank in and just purchased an HDTV receiver (Sony SAT-HD100) and also borrowed a friend's HDTV receiver (Hughes E86) for comparison.

Both show the same problem when displaying any HDTV 1080i material (ie. Jay Leno or CSI or PBS). The picture is clear, but DIAGONAL LINES sweep across constantly. I've attached a picture (cropped) of this annoyance taken from a PBS channel.

I have used a generic component cable and high end cables, and the same thing happens.

Note: I have not performed any of the convergence tests.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

cdawg, welcome to the forum.

You may have some sort of ingress into your TV signal, perhaps from an A/C (power) cord. Check all your cable connections so that they are proper and tight and make sure you don't have any power cords, etc running parallel to the cable for long distances. (I'm talking about the cable from the antenna into the STB not the cables between the STB and the TV.)

Once you've got this issue cleared up, you should tune up your TV. Check out the FAQ section, 6th one down on the home page, especially the post "what you need to do to your new TV".
