I just got it a couple of weeks ago. The biggest I could go due to armoir (significant other rule) size. I love the TV, though. I've read good reports on it and so far I'm very happy with the choice. Let me know if you'd like details.

I've heard that with the comparable Panasonic there is too much Blue and needs professional calibration. Was this the case with yours or was it good right out of the box.
Why did you decide on a direct view? For the size or some other reason? Would you say that the Toshiba has as good of a picture quality as the projection TVs out there?
Thanks,

aj, Petrus explained that it was the biggest he could fit into his armoir.
The smallest RPTV is about 40", so there is no way to compare. I know what you are driving at, but you can't do it. If you're buying a "small" set (<40") you'll probably buy a direct view. If you're buying larger than 40", most people buy RPTV, unless they have a lot of money and buy something else. It's really pretty clear cut and you're making this a lot harder than you need to, once you decide on a "size".
You're trying to compare apples and oranges - same with your poll. The comparison is just not valid.
Most people buy RPTVs because they are "large" and provide good value and good picture quality.
Second is probably Direct View, but those people are buying a small set due to size limitations or size preference.
Then there are the people with all kinds of money - they buy LCDs, Plasmas, etc.

I am looking to buy a 34HD82, but I have a question. With the Toshiba RPTVs, they have the capability to change their aspect ratio in HS mode. Is this also possible on the 34HD82? The BestBuy salesman said it should, but couldn't prove it (no HD input). Don't want to spend $2,200 without knowing all the facts and don't want to see gray side bars in HS mode with original 4:3 programming. Thanks for any info.

Sorry, can't spell worth a hoot. It should read HD mode (High Definition). Thanks.

In HD mode (i.e. through the component video cables), you cannot change the picture size. However, I watch everthing that is not in HD through the s-video input so that I can stretch the picture. You really don't notice any difference. It is my understanding you have to do this with every TV, not just this Toshibas because the component cables will not allow a stretch adjustment.
Originally posted by Petrus It is my understanding you have to do this with every TV, not just this Toshibas because the component cables will not allow a stretch adjustment. Clarification:
The new HDX Toshiba RPTVs allow you to stretch HD images (720P, 1080i). I think even the new Toshiba "H" RPTVs allow this. I do believe this is unique to Toshiba. Sorry, I don't know about the Toshiba direct view TVs. Don't take anyone's word on anything.... If this is important to you, see it for yourself.
The latest STBs will have scaling capability, so this is not as important as it once was. Check your STB options too....
Many RPTVs allow you to stretch component video inputs (480i, 480P), some do not.

Just bought mine from Hype Audio for $1732. I don't know why some people are dogging the customer service there. So far it's been great. Now just sitting and waiting for the bad boy to arrive!!!
