Recently bought a toshiba 46H84. I have a lower-end Sony progressive scan dvd player hooked through component inputs. Movies look GREAT, but dvd's of television shows (Curb Your Enthusiasm, among others) look too grainy and poorly resolved.

I have tried various combinations of settings -- putting the TV in video mode or film mode, running the DVD player in PS or interlaced, and putting the DVD player pull-down on video or auto, but they all look poor. Maybe it looked a bit better with PS off and both set to video.

Any suggestions? Please help!

Not all DVD's will have the same picture quality.

Yeah, but no tv-sourced dvd right -- alll of them look bad. Doesn't this have to have something to do with the pull-down technology?all

This is true, many of the TV series DVDs are really compressed to get more episodes on each disc.

Sometimes the PQ wasn't all that great to start with.

There are probably a few TV-sourced DVD's that look good.
It's hit or miss...

It really has nothing to do with 'pull-down' technology.
