I noticed this a long time ago, but didn't confirm it until some experimenting this week.
Since I prefer to turn my TV on and off only once a day, I usually leave it on, once turned on, until I go to bed. I usually turn it on in the early evening. Sometimes, usually Saturday, I turn it on a little earlier to programme my VCR and that's when I noticed this trend.
When I'm not watching the TV I tune it to HDPBS - this gives me a varying 16:9 image, so no concerns about burn in. I usually mute the audio on my receiver and go away.
If I leave the TV alone for 2 hours without changing the channel (on the STB) the TV will turn itself off. I guess this is some sort or energy conservation, or screen saver. Neat.
Anyone else notice this? I wonder whether this would explain the "on-off" issues that some people have mentioned with Hitachi sets...
