View Full Version : toshiba 52hm84 random white light flash
i bought the 52hm84 back in november and have loved it so far. but for the past week i have been seeing this random flash of white light that can been seen across the screen. sometimes i won't see it for 10 minutes and then it will flash twice in one minute. it doesn't matter what device/input i'm using. it is not that noticable but after viewing the perfect hd channels, it has become an annoyance. it almost looks like someone is taking a picture in the background.
i have a comcast dual tuner dvr hd cable box, an xbox, a ps2, a vcr, a hdmi dvd player and a tivo hooked up. but like i said, all has been well up until this last week. anyone have an idea of what might be causing this?

If i had to guess its the bulb and/or the electronics controlling it.
Maybe try it in the other mode and see if problem still exists, and that (instant restart feature) kinda catches my eye as to what may be the problem.

thanks for replying sir. i tried it in low power mode and it still is there. i am about to try a cable ground loop isolator or a hum eliminator. is it possible either of these would solve the porblem or am i just wastin my time?

Is this still under the manufacturer's warranty period? Its the 2004 model, if so i would go that route before investing money trying to troubleshoot a problem like this.
sorry edit read your first post, you bought it in November; its under warranty from Toshiba and/or extended if you got that from your retailer. I would definately have a tech come out. If you didnt get the extended warranty from retailer it should say in your owners manual that one will come out to your house for the first year from Toshiba.
ya it is still under warranry with toshiba. and i have the best buy 4 year extended service plan. i guess i'll give toshiba a call tomorrow.

Lastly does that flash look like a (flicker) of white across the screen is shot at you for a quick second ..but very fast? Could it be described as a white flicker so-to-speak?
I ask because i have a friend with a sammy dlp that has mentioned this to me.
thats it. its a quick flicker. if you blink you can miss it. but it is there and is drving me mad. like i said above, it looks like someone is taking a picture and i am seeing the resulting flash. it occurs randomly but happens no matter what input i am using.
