Looks the same. I know that the 65H84 has some features the 65H14 doesn't on Toshiba's site. But the 65H14 is cheaper also. I'm just wondering which one you guys would go with and why?

the 14 is last year's model sold at stores like costco and sam's.
so 65h14 is really a rebadged 65h83. that's what happens to excess inventory
(don't tell costco shoppers!) i have personally obseved this and others have confirmed...but check for yourself incase some order was filled with this year's model.

edit: just because its last year's model does not mean its inferior. some things
like lenses get downgraded for economics so a careful comparison of features
is necessary to decide.

So are you saying that not all 65H14 are the same and to look at the specs before buying it?

And here is your comparison: (Hope this works right)

H14---------------------vs.-------------H84

40w sound-----------------------30w sound
Powerfocus HDII CRTs------------PowerFocus HD CRTs
Super Fine Pitch Screen----------Fine Pitch Screen
High Contrast TheaterShield------TheaterShield
TruView-------------------------TruView 2
None listed----------------------Day/Night Mode
Ambient Light Sensor-------------None Listed
Red/Green Color Lens Filters------None Listed
160degree Viewing Angle----------?
None listed-----------------------RF X 2 Input
Quick Connect Guide--------------None Listed

All in all, the H14 has 13 different features (most for the better it seems, according to the spec sheet) vs the H84 has 6. Overall I would have to say go with the H14. I think ultimately it will have the better picture. Let us know what you choose.

Interesting info Cougar. Thanks for the heads up.

I edited the 'None' to 'None Listed'.

Thanks for the link gopher. It reminded me of 1 other difference: The front speaker grill on the H84 is black, and on the H14 it is charcoal. I don't care for the silverie look of todays appliances but it actually looks classy to me.

After looking at the specs some more I think the 65H14 might be the better deal. That's a 300 difference between the 65H14 and 65H84. I think this will be the more logical decision. I just wasn't sure what the 65H84 was offering over the 65H14. But since you pointed out those specs you can't go wrong with more features and less of a price tag. Not to mention the great warranty of Costco for free. My main question was if the 65H84 was really worth the extra 300 or not.

Also what accessories should i get to make this set run optimally. I know I have to get some kinda of tuning kit after I break the TV in. I just need to know which one is best and easiest to use. No need for a HDTV box because I have comcast and can just switch to a HDTV box. I just need a list of what's need to make this Set run at its best. Thanks guys!

To be honest, you dont need a set up disc. But you will wonder what your missing and buy one anyway so get the DVE (Digital Video Essentials). Personally I played with the adjustments for awhile (drove the wife nuts!) and ended up using primarily the TV's factory settings, switching on or off things and making minor adjustments in the user menu here and there depending on what I am watching. But primarily the factory settings i feel are best for the everyday viewing that we do.

Eg...Superbowl XXXIX in HD I watched in SPORTS mode (factory preset) with the ambient light sensor (which controls the contrast levels according to the light in the room) turned ON. 90% of the people in here would shudder at the thought of using the presets but I like them. After all, thats what the TV was displaying when i made the decision to buy right? (it was a flor model I bought). So personally I say save the 20 bucks on DVE and play around in the user menu. However, since you will still get a DVE, the demonstration scenes for both the 5.1 or higher and the video is pretty good. Puts the system through its paces.

The other consideration is if you want to take the protective 'glare' screen off. I took mine off and havent looked back, the already fantastic picture looks that much better. But if you have rambunctious children or pets around, you may want to leave it on.

I saw the H14 @ SAMs and I really liked it. My family really liked it. But for us the 51" was/is perfect. I highly reccomend the Toshiba, whichever way you go.

i am just saying be careful and check for yourself, just incase. just
trying to cover all possibilities. the posters that put up the comparisons
are great. i did not look carefully at the comparisons and its ultimately up to the
buyer to make the decision...choosing the features that matter to him/her.
some may have opinions which is "better", i do not, i have not done
the homework....hope you have the
info you need. great comparison posts!

Do I need any special cables, etc? Anything you can think of would be nice.

unless they throw in cables with tv, wait til you get home to see how to connect your equip with the best options and then go get it. you' probably
need component cables and maybe s-video if your equip takes it. otherwise,
composite cables will be needed. don't waste your money on a digital cable unless your equipment requires it. these are analog projection tvs and the "digital" benefit is lost when the tv converts the digital signal to analog. not
the case on other technology tv's (plasma etc) that keep the signal digital
all the way to the screen.
