View Full Version : Cable Connection Question

I got my Toshiba 51H84 just before Christmas. For most of that time, I had my cable into the HD cable box first, then into the TV. Of course, that means features like the TV's POP can't be used.
So, last night I decided I would change things around. I took the cable directly to the TV, then out to the cable box. Of course, the cable box is still connected to the TV via component cables.
The problem is, the HD stations can not be viewed with this configuration. Is the TV incapable of passing the HD signals out to the box so they can then be sent via the component connection?
I know buying a splitter will probably fix this. I was just wondering if I was correct about the HD signal not being sent back out to the box.
By the way, what kind of splitter should I be looking for to make sure the signal stays good?

The TV is not letting them pass through, a decent 1 Ghz splitter should work fine. Split them between the TV and the cable box then run a loop from the out on the TV to the other antenna input while your at it.

Hmmm...advice from a Ravens fan. Guess I could do worse. At least you're not from Cleveland!
Just curious, what benefit do I get from the loop out to Ant2?
Thanks again.

The ability to use both tuners in the TV... just in case you want to PIP between them sometime.
You should be thanking my Ravens for ripping Tommy's arm off in week two by the way ;) Shame Ben couldn't carry that momentum into the playoffs, I would have liked to see my division in there at least...

In my opinion, connecting the TV's out to the TV's ANT 2 is a worthless connection when you have a cable box. Just one more thing to potentially go wrong/interfere with picture quality.
The POP will work just fine using ANT1 and the cable box's component/HDMI. Just split the cable using a 1gig splitter as instructed earlier and eliminate the TV out to TV in process.

On this TV Ant 2 will not work for POP. See page 35

I had the same sorta question...I have mine setup with a splitter but always wondered about feeding the cable direct to the TV. Stranged that the TV won't pass the HD signal. Just use a good quality splitter (I got a monster one for about $10). Works like a charm.

Its ok Neither Splicer nor you knew. I wanted to check to make sure it would even do POP with an HD feed-which it does. the 2nd ANT feed is almost redundant and not neede in the digital world.
