View Full Version : Green Lines and Red Haze

I'm sure these are newb type question, but here goes. I just bought a Toshiba 51h84 for Christmas. For now, I have two questions.

#1) When a tv channel transitions from a commercial back to the program, there is usually that split second of blackness. Sometimes, during that transition, I see green lines flash on the screen. They look just like the lines that appear while doing an auto-convergence. Is this normal?

#2) During extremely dark scenes, I have noticed a red haze along the left and right edges of the screen. After reading this and similar forums, I learned about the service menu. I went into it and knocked the rcut setting down a bit. This seemed to do a decent job of getting rid of my red haze problem. Was this an appropriate fix for my problem? Is there anything else I could have or should have done?

Also, just for some background, I have the DVE disk and have gone through the basic stuff in it. I haven't gone into checking for geometry, overscan, or convergence issues yet. But, I have used it for color, contrast, brightness, etc.

Thanks.

I do not have the green line thing, but i do have the red haze on the sides of the picture. I was wondering if when you fixed that with the rcut, did you reconfigure with the DVE disc? And if so did the red haze come back after you reconfigured?

Sorry no answers, just more questions.

I took a look at the DVE disk when done. Red seemed a bit off, but not enough to get concerned about. I also posted this on another HDTV board. A guy there told me that my method wasn't necessarily the correct way to get rid of the haze.

He said when I bumped down the rcut, red was affected over the entire screen...not just the problem areas. A better fix would be lens striping. That is basically covering part of the red lens with tape to diffuse the red light going to the right side.

I'm not comfortable with taking my $1,400 tv apart. So, I think that I'll stay with my fix. As mentioned above, red still looks fine on my DVE disk. So, I must not have turned it down too much. Just enough to lighten the red haze. By the way, it is still, very slightly, there. I just turned rcut down enough to make it much less noticeable.
