yo' kevin,
i gave the 55-60 pt calibration a shot and turned down those guns a bit and it looks great! i was NERVOUS as hell my first try but once i went in there 3 or 4 times it was pretty simple to understand. it's not perfect, but it looks really good.
i have some very minor bowing in 2 corners which i only see when i watch a DVD in TH1, but i'll keep practicing.
i'm also going to grab avia from somewhere to see what else i should shore up.
ultimately, i still may want to have a REAL pro come out someday because there are some serious tweaks that can be done but i'm afraid--very afraid-- of the ADDR and designer modes.
a couple of other observations:
1) i notice that analog looks better when i switch the dst-3000's resolution to 480i
2) i find that watching a dvd in TH1 looks best. i'll have to be careful though because a 2:35:1 film leaves 2" bars at the top and bottom.
many, many, thanks for the info!
p.s. how concerned are you about this DVI issue?

I am with you on anything other than the 56 pt. Sacred me too!!
Go back every couple of days and touch up if needed . After 3- 4 times of touching up the autofocaus should have a lock on your setup.
You can fix the bowing by starting in green and using an overlay. Myself I just eyeballed it.
As for the 480i same thing when watching a digital signal.
As to DVI, my tv does not have it..worrying about it will not help. All of my HD is OTA. I do not think OTA will be affected. Only subscription services like HBO,SHOWTIME or PPV will have some type of copy protection. To worry is like checking to see if the price you paid on your TV went down after the 30 day price match:D

I agree with you on the DVI mess!
