Okay I got a pretty good deal I think on this at a local Sears, cost me 1600.00, was a display unit for 2 months. Heres my questions:

1. I am not really happy with the color on the unit so what can I do to make them better? (Remember I am a newbie to this)

2. I am running DTV and my receivor does not have the component outs, so I am using the S-Vid and RCA's for sound in Input1, is this the only way for me and possibly why I have bad pic? Can I make it better?

3. Avia, what is this? Were do I buy one? And is it necessary?

4. I have a Sony Progressive Scan DVD player hooked up with component hookup this looks pretty godd but are there any tweaks?

5. I see allot of talk about adjusting 64 convergance, how do I do this?

6. Any factory settings to disable or what should I start with?

7. Going to buy a new HD DTV receivor soon, which one should I get? The Hughes E86 is about 400.00 here local without dish, so add another 150.00 or so, is this a good one? Or the RCA one is 399.00 at a dealer here, which to buy?

Thanks in advance......

Mark

Floor model? I hope you also bought the extended warranty. Always a good idea on any high priced electonic device.

There are some color tweeks you can do to correct. They can be found at keohi.com. You will also learn about the convergence there as well. But be careful with this adjustment.

S video is the best for most DTV's. That's how my Dish Network is connected.

Avia is a DVD that help's calibrate your video and audio systems. Sound and Vision also have a disk. For we semi-pros it's good enough. You can pick it up at Best Buy - around $18. Avia is $40.

If you have your DVD hooked from progressive to progressive that's the best. Make sure you told the DVD "to send" progressive picture. Usually a button on the front on the DVD. If not, you're still sending composite.

If you have Dish you may want to wait until April to get a HD box.
Dish is coming out with an HD box that records.

Hope this helps some.

Turn off all of the "automatic settings" before adjusting your set with AVIA or S&V. (Black level, auto colour, SVM, etc) and leave them off.

In case you have not done so already, please read the posts in the FAQ section. They are usually helpful for "newbies".
