I just bought one and the picture and features are awesome but, it makes a loud buzzing sound which Pioneer considers "normal". I don't live in high altitude, I am sitting 10' away from the plasma, my room is carpeted and I can hear a buzzing sound coming from the plasma while watching a movie. Very annoying if you pay 8 to 10 grand for a plasma.

Thinking it was defective, I exchanged it for another 1120. Same BUZZ! I spoke to a tech at an authorized Pioneer repair shop and he says the buzz is pretty normal for a plasma but, Pioneers are louder than other brands.

I won't get all technical but, for those that don't know what buzz I'm talking about, It doesn't come from the speakers. It comes from inside the plasma and through the vents. The loudness and pitch change with the picture.

Have the same TV & noticed the same problem. Just thought it was an issue w/ plasma TVs in general. It definitely bugs, but not enough to return it. Do other plasmas make the same buzzing sound? Could it be a problem w/ settings or type of input (e.g. HDMI vs component) or cable? Do other Pioneers have the same buzzing sound?

i think the buzzing is the distress signal to the Coast guard that i've been hearing about!

I could not take the buzz anymore so I returned my 1120. Paying so much money to hear buzz was really bugging me. This was the second 1120 I returned by the way.

I really like the feature of having 2 HDMI inputs so I stuck with Pioneer and bought the PDP5045. Keeping my fingers crossed, I hooked it up, powered it up and ZERO BUZZ! That's right. NO BUZZ!

Sure, I don't have an 1120 anymore but, I am very happy now with an awesome picture and no buzz.

That is one of the major problems with most plasmas, the cooling fans which buzz. I tried a Gateway plasma, and the thing was awful, the brighter the picture the louder the buzz. I could always hear it, even with surround sound. Drove me nuts.

Im pretty surprised to hear about this from Pioneer and for such an expensive unit. It seems to be behaving the same way as the Gateway. There are some fanless and liquid cooled plasmas out there which address the issue. Perhaps the 5045 is fanless. Good luck and enjoy.

I have a Pioneer PDP5040HD, and there is no annoying buzz as far as I can tell. The fan on the media receiver makes a small amount of noise, but it's not a problem for me.

rx3: No buzz!? I'm starting to wonder if I should return it too. I initially chose the 1120 over the 5045, thinking any Elite model should be better than a non-Elite model. But, if you're saying the 5045 PQ is as good as the 1120 without the buzzing sound, maybe I should do the same. It's hard to explain, but it sounds more "electronic" than just a fan.

But, I did find if I eat while watching TV, it seems to drown-out the sound. Maybe I'll do that instead. Or, have my doctor increase my antipsychotic dosage...j/k.

My Hitachi has a buzz that at times will grind at my nerves. It is not the cooling fans - they are a low hum that is not annoying but are audible. Those alone would not bother me, but it should be noted that I did replace them once because one of the three fans developed a higher pitch.

I have had the back off this unit to try and find the source, and the buzz is coming from one of the circuit boards. It does change depending on what type of input I use (RGB, component, etc.)

I'm told this is normal, but I'd like to find a unit that does NOT do it. If I do this I will also find one with no fans since this unit is in a VERY quiet environment.
