Will the 57H81 be able to display 720p broadcasts if that becomes the standard? The manual and all other information I can find only mentions 480p, 480i, and 1080i capability. Will the receiver provided by a cable company be able to convert? Can the TV convert 720p to 1080i? Come on boys, I need my NFL in HD...

edk, welcome to the forum:

1. The standards for HD are already set - they are 720P and 1080i. As far as I know only HDABC uses 720P. (HDFox uses EDTV (480P))

2. Most STBs (including cable) upconvert signals to 1080i, that's why 720P inputs are not included on all sets.

3. Your TV will not upconvert 720P, since it cannot receive 720P.

4. Fear not, your cable STB will upconvert the HDABC 720P signal to 1080i and you'll be able to see your football game just fine.

5. Visit our FAQ forum, as it may help you with other issues you may have questions on.

Thanks. I am fired up. Where's the best source for information on local area cable HDTV broadcast schedules? I'm using ATT in Seattle.

See the FAQ section for "programming guides". These will show the "national" shows mostly, but you can match these to the stations that you get in your local area and know what's HD.

I have seen guides for Oklahoma and Atlanta, not sure if there is one for your area - perhaps someone else here has one.
