I just picked up this set from BestBuy & since I've been unable to find squat on the web for info I'll start a thread & hopefully we'll get some folks to chime in.

I bought this over the 37" Sharp Aquos to serve as my kitchen / hang-out room TV. I didn't want an extra box to plug all my cables into likethe Sharp has. Plus the LG looks pretty freakin' cool. I'm feeding it with a Cox Cable SA8000HD via component (yes, I know everyone hates these things but mine hasn't died yet...unlikely my no-load TiVO Series 2). The biggest downside is Cox in Northern VA hasn't enabled the DVI for these things yet.

The picture in 720P & 1080i is awesome. Doesn't do analog cable too well, but who cares since I have most every broadcast channel via HD cable anyway.

xbox looks pretty good on the set as does my Samsung 841 DVD player (connected via DVI--you can really tell which DVDs are well-produced & which ones are seriously data-compressed).

I was looking in to buying this exact model, but have yet been able to find one in stock. Best Buy shows it on their web site for in store pick up only. No Best Buy around me carries them. I went ahead and bought an LG plasma RU-42PZ71 42 inch HDTV. They now have double the life and I got 42 inches for less money. I am very happy with this set.

Hi Twitch,

Thanks for starting this thread.

I'm seriously considering plunking for the LG Du-37LZ30 (although I haven't yet ruled out going for the 32 inch Song KLV-32M1 or the Hitachi 32HDL51). How happy are you with the quality of this set so far? Do you believe that it is superior to the 37" Sharp (LC-37G4U)? Based on what I could tell in the store, the LG images seemed sharper (no pun intended). Also, how do you think that your LG does with the images of moving objects? How do you like the audio quality? Did you get an extended warranty? Do you think after living with this unit that it provides a significantly more "immersive" experience than any 32"?

Thanks, Berto41

Any one experiencing a problem with turning on the set and only getting sound but no picture? After you turn it off/on again you get picture. This does not happen all the time but occasionaly enough to have me post!

I'm having the same problem with my LG DU-30LZ30. My problem is a bit worse because sometimes it takes 7 or 8 on off cycles before the picture will come on. The sound always comes on as well as the channel indicator led's. Did you ever get any replies to your question? Have you called LG?

I called the Tech Support and was instructed to do a reset by unpluging the unit for 45 minutes. Did that and still had the problem not as frequent but it did not remedy the problem. I called by local authorized repair and will have it serviced. They say it sounds like a circuit panel may need to be replaced. It does not do it that often now but the problem is still there.

In addition to this I realized when I was having the problem that the remote control was acting up. I had to remove it from the room where the set was along with replacing the batteries because after the 45 minute reset the set would cut on with picture and then cut off when i used the remote.

I took the remote out of the area and removed the batteries for about two days and replaced the batteries and it is working ok now accept for the set still gives me audio only sometimes and other times it is working properly. But it is going in for repair once it goes back to the constant problem. The repair turn around is approximately 3 weeks.

Thanks for the tip. I'll call LG and see what they tell me. My TV is mounted on the wall. It was time consuming to mount it and I hate to take it in to get it serviced. I always worry that it will come back worse than when it went in. I hate to mess with service on a brand new TV less than 30 days old.

It's really too bad because otherwise this is a great set. I use the built in OTA tuner to get my HD programming. The picture on HD broadcast is nothing short of amazing.

One more thing. Does you set have a cloudy haze on the screen when there is no picture. Also, when you watch a widescreen DVD, are you distracted by a faint white cloud right below the picture frame? Is there any way to deal with this. I've tried turning down the brightness, but that is not effective. Any ideas?

As of my last post the set has been working fine . I agree with the servce schedule as that is my fear too. Once they get you in I feel that they tamper with something else scheduled to bring you back within a few months just to line their pockets.
Yeah the OTA HD is superb even with my indoor HD antenna. CBS soaps my wife loves. Other networks fade in an out during the day but during prime time they all come in with out a glitch and give stunning PQ.
I don't recall a haze with out a picture nor any flaws with the DVD which I use with the component hook up.
So far the set is working fine.

Been a while since I posted in this thread. A few comments.

1) I now have an SA8300 HD-DVR hooked up to it via HDMI (using DVI to HDMI converter). Pretty good picture. Occasionally I get a little blotchy colors on some backgrounds but I imagine it is more likely the signal.

2) I originally had my Sammy 841 DVD player hooked up to the DVI but moved it to component. Believe it or not I think the DVD looks better via component than DVI.

3) I've got my PC hooked up as well. Not to bad either. I can sit across the room with my BT keyboard & mouse & effectively use the computer.

4) Bought a Logitech smart remote (880) that downloads all the codes from the web & builds functional macros (so you can hit 1 button to play xbox or watch HDTV). Pretty sweet.

5) I mounted my LG over my fireplace (I never use it so don't worry about me torching my TV). My daughter was drawn to the fact I previously had it on an entertainment center & it swiveled back & forth. I got a Sanus wall mount bracket that allows me to pull it away from the wall & swivel it around. Pretty cool. My daughter loves it when I tilt it down so she can sit in her chair & watch Nemo for the 5,000th time (very slight exaggeration). BTW, the TV is much lighter without the base (so I don't worry about it falling off the wall)....although my studs over the fireplace were 24 inches apart so I did a ghetto install & spanned the studs with more cross-studs via lag screws to attach the bracket to the wall.

6) My only dissatisfaction is the black level. Watching somthing with tons of dark scenes (like Van Helsing) is annoying.

7) I've not really experienced problems other folks were having with the delay in the picture coming on. I know the owner's manual mentions something about that. But it if it taking like 5+ min that may be excessive. Page 44 of the manual mentions the following:
"Picture appears slowly after switching on • This is normal, the image is muted during the TV startup process. Please contact your service center, if the picture has not appeared after five minutes."

8) Anyone else have problems going to the LG service website? It is pretty much intermittent.

Finally I sent in my LG the on off cycle got to annoying. My local repair ordered the part on 11/10/05 from LG and had not received the part as of this writing. The bottom line is I contacted LG parts to verify the delay which they confirmed as on back order until 12/23/05.
I did send in a complaint by e-mail. Their reply was very cordial but still no faster service. Service really takes a back seat for LG. :boo2:

After seeing several people with this complaint, I'm starting to get a little worried. Although I don't use the TV a lot, (maybe 10 -15 hrs / week) I have never experienced this problem. How long have you had the set (and roughly how much use time) before you noticed the on-off delay? I know the problem was stated in the manual as "normal", but the longest I have ever had to wait for the picture to come on was 10 seconds give or take.

I purchased the set in April 05. The problem occured shortly afterward approximately several weeks. It wasn't being used that much when i noticed it. As i said some times it would work properly for long periods of tme. I started to put it in the shop in August but tried the trouble shoot technique and discovered what appeared to be the remote which was discussed in a prior posting. So that seemed to remedy the problem for a while and about a month later it was back. I toyed with it because I liked the set and it is in the bedroom but not my main TV. It finally got too annoying with the on/off cycle so in for repair it is! :shootout:

It should be ok. A co worker of mine has one and he reports no problems and has had his longer than i have. I just warned him of the symptoms and the service.
Other than that we really like the set.

Finally got my set back Saturday January 07, 2006 and all is well. The on off cycle is correct and enjoying the view. My warrany covered the cost. Remind you it has been two(2) months since they had it.
